Healthy breakfast ideas that’s quick and easy to make

I still remember my childhood days, when my mom used to cook amazingly tasty breakfast and that too very quickly. But, she had acquired that skill over the years and thus was able to perfect herself in cooking those breakfast recipes.

But, today’s moms are too occupied and they themselves are in a lot of rush in the morning. So, if you are a mom, you should try the breakfast recipes that are healthy, quick and easy to make.

In fact, it is important for all of us to be self-sufficient and instead of putting too much pressure on the moms, we should learn to make our own breakfast. I often cook tasty and healthy breakfast for my entire family and they love these recipes. And I am happy to share the top 5 of my all time favorite healthy breakfast recipes.

Listed below are my favorite breakfast recipes that tasty, nutritious and quick and easy to make.

Cold cereals

Cold cereal breakfast is one of the easiest and fastest breakfast options that you can consider when in hurry to go out in the morning. You have to pour the breakfast cereals in a bowl and add some milk in it and then eat it fast. However, the thing that you should be careful about is that most of these cereals contain large amount of sugar even though they are fortified with many useful minerals and vitamins. So, while you are choosing the cereals you should pick the ones that are high in fiber but contains less sugar. You should aim for less than 5 grams of sugar per serving of the cereal.

One serving should be around ¾ cup along with half cup of milk. It is preferable that you go for low to non-fat milk. If this is not enough to keep you full for a long time, then you can add it up with two more options.

Firstly, eat up a slice of whole grain toast with peanut butter and secondly drink a small glass of 100% fruit or vegetable juice. This combination will definitely be great for you as the toast and the peanut butter will supply you with proteins, fiber and monounsaturated fat which will keep you full for a long time. As far as the juice is concerned, it will provide you with the necessary minerals, Vitamins and phytochemicals.

Whole grain bread sandwich

I love sandwiches and it is one of my favorite breakfast options, especially when I am in a rush. But then, I prepare my sandwich on my own, as it is easy to make and it hardly takes any time.

You just have to scramble or fry an egg and serve it on 100% whole grain toasted bread. I like to add ketchup, raw tomatoes, onions, green veggies etc, but that’s up to you.

You may also add a little bit of cheese, some mushrooms, onions, and pepper to make it tastier. In order to save time in the morning, you can actually chop down the ingredients the night before and keep them in the refrigerator and use them in the morning.

In case you do not like eggs, you can go for a jelly and peanut butter whole grain bread sandwich along with nut butter, 100% fruit spread etc. You may also try out something different and go for a peanut butter and fruit wrap.

However, there is no rule that you need to only go for foods with eggs or cereals for your breakfast. You may even go for a lean turkey sandwich if you want to along with sprouts and mustard. All you got to remember is whatever sandwich you are eating just make sure that you are using whole grain bread and nutritious feelings to get that extra fiber.

Hot cereals

Oatmeal is definitely my second best favorite as a breakfast. When you are in hurry, the hot cereals can be a life saver. A bowl of warm oatmeal along with some cinnamon and your favorite fruit is enough to keep you warm, comfortable and full for a long time.

Oatmeal is easy to make on the stove or using the microwave oven. Even you get many flavored oatmeal mixes in the market to further make your work easy. However, I personally do not prefer the flavored mixes found in the market due to the presence of sugar and artificial flavors in them that are not so healthy and may lead to weight gain.

In case you do not like oatmeal, you may then go for hot wheat cereal or may even try out quinoa which is nothing but a very healthy and delicious seed which can be served like oatmeal.

No matter what hot cereal you plan to choose for, just make it a point to add on to the nutrition level by adding strawberries, blueberries, or other cut fruits and also some chopped out nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds. You can even serve the cereal with milk or 100% fruit juice.

Smoothies

I frequently take smoothies as a breakfast. And trust me, they are healthy and keep your stomach full for a long time. Simply use your blender to make flavorful and thick smoothies using fresh or frozen fruits plus some water, milk, curd or juice.

Start with a basic fruit smoothie and then go for experimentation with any fruit you may have. If you have a sweet tooth, you may add a bit of honey, a little bit of sugar or some artificial sweetener. However, please make sure not to overdo the sugar.

To make the smoothies more nutritious, you can add little amount of flax oil or some milled flax seed along with some peanut butter or plain yogurt. This total combination is very healthy because the healthy fats and proteins along with the fiber present in the fruit will keep you active and full for a long time.

However, you should avoid the commercial fruit smoothie mixes found in the market because of the presence of high amount sugar and artificial flavors. You should also try and resist your temptation to add ice cream scoops as that will simply turn the healthy smoothie into something that is unhealthy high calories.

Leftovers foods

Certain foods like eggs, cereals, waffles etc. are associated with breakfast but there is no such rule that you will have to choose from these options only. It is all about staying healing and so if you are trying out something that is stereotypically not considered as a breakfast option but is healthy, that is just fine. Like for example, one or two days you may eat the leftovers of your dinner.

However, you need to keep in mind that, in order to make the breakfast healthy, you need to add fiber and protein in it because that will keep you full for a long time. So, days you are running late, you may just heat the leftover chicken and add it up with lots of green beans and other veggies on the side and have it as breakfast. You may even add it up with one 100% whole grain bread slice along with low fat milk or 100% fruit juice.
